Chains, by Laurie Halse Anderson

Amazing Beautiful Book

Chains is about a slave girl called Isabel who lives at the time of the Revolutionary War. Chains is geared towards young adults. Isabel’s old owner lived in Rhode Island but her new owner lives in New York. Isabel’s old owner was kind, but her new owner likes to hit her slaves.  Isabel has a little sister called Ruth who came with her. Isabel cares more about Ruth then herself. Isabel makes friends with another slave boy called Curzon. Isabel wants to be free and will do anything to be free. But with the Revolutionary War going on can she make it? I thought Chains was a very good book. Laurie Halse Anderson puts an appendix in all of her books to tell you the events that happened. Five Stars. -annaleeliz and Buttons
