The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, by Jacqueline Kelly

The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate is about called Calpurnia who lives at the turn of the century (1800s-1900s) who does not want to sew, cook, and raise a family. The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate is for young adults. Calpurnia lives in Texas on a plantation. Calpurnia loves to walk to the river and observe things. Calpurnia is the only girl in a family of seven boys. Calpurnia has a grandfather that dreams of finding a new species. Calpurnia and Grandfather will work together to find a new species all while Calpurnia is avoiding sewing, cooking, and practicing the piano. Calpurnia’s antics are very amusing and I laughed a lot. Calpurnia wanted to be a scientist so she helped her grandfather with his studies. Apparently in the 1800s they did not teach science in school!!! Shocking!!! The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate was okay. Four Stars. -annaleeliz and Buttons
