Ponyboy is a greaser. A greaser is a poor person. They fight to live. The greasers fight the Socs. The Socs are the rich kids. Ponyboy’s parents were killed and he lives with his brothers now. It is their way of life. Ponyboy and his brothers are in a gang with friends. The greasers stick together and have an unbreakable bond. Sometimes, Socs jump greasers. During one of those times, where Ponyboy was with Jonny, someone takes it to far. Someone gets killed. Jonny and Ponyboy are on the run now.
I thought that this book was very deep. It had a lot of messages in it. Like, everyone is equal. Sometimes I felt like crying because this book was so deep and true. If you want the truth on how things are in life you need to read this book. I mean it. This book is brutal. It will tell you things that you might think are shocking. Or terrible. It just gets really frank and sad. I trust that you will understand how much I love this book.
Ponyboy. Oh, Ponyboy. I loved you with all my heart. You were my beloved. You are now one of my many book boyfriends. I do actually have one of those. I cried when some things happened and I smiled for you when good things happened. Ponyboy never realized how much everyone cared for him. He frequently stated how he thought that Darry didn’t care for him. That was so wrong. Everyone cared for Ponyboy. I loved all the characters. I was really sad when some died. *running around screaming about how it cannot end this way* I am sorry. I have composed myself. It is just that these characters will move you. So, if you read this book, prepare to be moved.
The plot was okay. It was not great. The plot brought the book to midway. But the characters brought the book home. I think that part of the plot was to watch Ponyboy grow as a person. Which he did. I felt super into the plot, even though it was not what I had hoped. The plot was really good for the first half of the book. Then it tuned down to okay. That sort of annoyed me. But by the half of the book, you were moved enough. You had cried enough. You will cry. If you do not like crying over books, do not read this book. I repeat, if you do not like crying over books, do not read this book. You will cry and you will laugh. It is just the nature of this book.
The setting in this book is okay. I don’t have much to say about it. I liked the church and was sad that it was burned. I was also sad that so many people died because of the church burning. I don’t know what that symbolizes but it symbolizes something. When I find out I will edit this blog post to include it.
