The Nightwalkers are terrorizing Gotham City, and Bruce Wayne is next on their list…. Bruce will walk the dark line between trust and betrayal as the Nightwalkers circle closer.
This book was INTENSE!!!! I really enjoyed reading it and learning more about Batman (because I know next to nothing about him). I liked Bruce Wayne a lot, although if I’m being honest I wish that he didn’t make so many stupid choices. The plot and the setting were very well done and I enjoyed exploring them with Bruce Wayne. If you want to hear more of my thoughts then you should read on.
The characters were amazingly detailed and complicated. I wanted to know everything about everyone but that never happened. I still don’t know lots of things about everyone and the book is over. That is a problem. I need to know these things. I hope that Mrs. Lu writes a sequel, even though we all know that she won’t. I really enjoyed learning about Bruce Wayne as a teenager and deciding that he was more likable in Mrs. Lu’s book than in the DC movies (sorry DC movies and fans). All of the characters changed a lot over the course of the book and I wish that I could see more of them.
My favorite character was Madeline. She was so strong and I felt so bad for her. I enjoyed learning about the way she figured things out. She was like a young, girl version of Sherlock Holmes. She was also really sweet and intelligent. I loved how she was a hacker and could do whatever what she wanted. She is such a talented and independent character and it broke my heart when the plot twist came. Madeline was the epitome of female empowerment, except for the fact that she was working for the wrong side.
The plot was very good. I was seeing Bruce Wayne, not Batman, which made me sort of upset. At least because of other bloggers, I knew this and went in prepared. There was lots of talking and quite a bit of action. So there were equal bits of scheming and action. The pacing was not as fast as I had hoped but it was okay. There were a lot of plot twists and I got exactly none of them. I was ashamed of myself and proud of Mrs. Lu for making it so complicated.
The setting was not as good as I’d hoped. It wasn’t as descriptive as I wanted, which means it wasn’t as descriptive as Warcross. I enjoyed the way that Arkham Asylum was set up, but that was the most descriptive place in the book. Somehow, I think that everywhere else should be as descriptive as the asylum. I’m not saying that the setting was terrible. It just… didn’t meet my expectations. On the other hand, the backstory was amazing. I am now proud to say that I know quite a lot about Bruce Wayne’s history. And everybody else’s backstory as well.
I really enjoyed this book, I just wish that a few tweaks had been made. I recommend it to any superhero fan. The summary came from the Library of Congress. Please remember to fill out my survey. You can find a link to it on my about page. Thanks for Reading!!!! Have a Great Day!!! -Annalee and Buttons
